New to the Mt. Hood event this year!

The athletes of the World Cup Dreams Foundation will be holding a coaching clinic July 9-10th in Mt. Hood.

Coaches: Take advantage of a unique opportunity to learn from Olympians and World Cup Athletes. Learn directly and ask questions about how top athletes approach their events- favorite drills, inspection, imagery and mental preparation, warm up routines and race day prep. What do top athletes think about when skiing fast? How did they dial in their technique, tactics and execution to get to where they are now?

It is a rare chance to expand your coaching skills with tips from the best in the sport, while also supporting a great cause.

Scott Macartney, two time Olympian, will be leading the clinic. Each USST athlete attending the event will also cycle through the group during the two days to give input and answer questions. Those athletes include Andrew Weibrecht, Olympic bronze medalist among others.

A video analysis session is included, with footage from USST athletes training.

Price of the 2 day Clinic, including tickets, breakfast and lunch is:

$580 if registered by May 31st ($600 after)

Please contact Scott, scott@worldcupdreams.org for more information, including a discount if your club signs up with World Cup Dreams for the Junior Program.

There will be a max of 10 coaches in the clinic, so register now!

Wow this ski season has to have been my shortest ski season ever. It seems like it just started and now, sadly I am done for the year. It was an amazing season with many firsts. It was my first time scoring World Cup points in Downhill scoring at Kitzbhuel, Wengen, and Bormio. It was my first time finishing in the top 20 in both Downhill and Super G on the World Cup, and I qualified for the World Ski Champs in Garmisch which was an amazing experience. The downhill at Garmisch sadly will also be my last race of the season. I broke my hand in the Downhill race there and had to have surgery with Dr. Viola in Vail. Following that surgery I had to have another operation to repair my lower core and groin area. They had to reattach torn lower abdominal muscles on both sides, sewing them onto my pubic bone. It is called Athletic Pubalgia...

I had my two-week post-op appointment with Dr. Sterett on Friday, and so far so good! My incision has healed up so I am cleared to begin going in the pool and I am also allowed to get full range of motion bending my knee. I have even started spinning for ten minutes on bike with no resistance! Pretty exciting stuff…

So far I have been working on getting control of my quad, getting better mobility with my knee, keeping the swelling down and trying to prevent scar tissue build-up. The biggest challenge so far has been getting control of my quad again, after surgery I could not flex my quad at all. It was strange not being able to move my leg at all and straining hard as I could to make something happen with the muscle but all I could get was a small quiver showing me that there was some life in my leg. I am making progress though, slow but sure!

I have been doing therapy five days a week in Eagle and Vail and will continue to do it for the next four weeks till I get off crutches. I wish I could progress faster with rehab, but we have to take it pretty slow the next four weeks, I guess we actually need to wait for the bone to heal more before I can go jumping around on it….dang.

It has been challenging being at home while the races continue on in Europe. I like watching the races but it hurts to watch and not be there. As anyone who has been injured they know how hard it is to not be able to do the things you enjoy and love. Life is never perfect and is full of challenges that can teach you lots of things about yourself and life, you just have to work through the tough times, keep things in perspective and look for the silver lining! My silver lining is that I will get to see my niece take her first steps and if I had been in Europe I most definitely would not be around for that. I am sure there will be many other silver linings from this injury, they may just take a bit to show themselves!

Good-bye till next time!

new website almost ready!

<itunes:author>Scott Macartney</itunes:author>

World Cup Dreams Foundation is working hard to get our new look ready for 2011. The race is a true test of focus and endurance. The course, just under 15 miles in length, winds its way through the scenic backcountry of Utah. There are a number of drops to go along with the big climbs – even more challenging as day turns into night.

Despite some flat tires, a broken shock mount and a few other twists and turns, World Cup Dreams “Dream Team” finished in an impressive 16thplace in the 5 person co-ed division, completing 15 laps – over 223 miles with more than 20,400 feet gained in elevation.
